TDLR hosts informative summits across Texas for barber and cosmetology programs

The Texas Barbering and Cosmetology Advisory Board convened on October 31, 2022, to discuss key initiatives and updates that directly impact the community of licensed professionals in the state. Rebecca Armas, a representative from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), shared details about the successful summit held in the Rio Grande Valley, which attracted over 100 attendees. Armas encouraged all stakeholders to subscribe to TDLR's communications to stay informed about ongoing developments, particularly regarding the implementation of House Bill 1560, which aims to streamline licensing processes. She humorously noted that TDLR would be "bombarding" subscribers with updates, ensuring that everyone is kept in the loop.

Armas reassured attendees that while higher pass rates are desirable, the primary goal is to ensure that those who pass are adequately prepared and safe to serve the public. Sean O'Neil, the barber program specialist, also reported on ongoing projects, including the revision of field inspection forms and licensing applications.
