Finnegan's Wake seeks permit amendment for outdoor amplified sound

A proposed amendment to the outdoor amplified sound permit for Finnegan's Wake, a beloved bar in San Francisco, is stirring community debate. The establishment, which has been a fixture on Cole Street for over 50 years, is seeking to formalize its outdoor sound activities, currently allowed under a temporary jam permit.

The amendment would permit outdoor amplified sound on the rear patio from 4 PM to 10 PM, aligning with the bar's existing hours for outdoor entertainment. Finnegan's Wake has actively engaged with its neighbors, distributing 75 letters to nearby businesses and residents, and gathering 57 signatures in support of the amendment. However, the bar also faces opposition, with eight letters from local residents expressing concerns about noise disruption. Many opponents argue that the bar has sufficient indoor space to accommodate patrons without the need for outdoor amplified sound.
