The City of San Francisco's fire department is actively engaged in battling multiple wildfires across California, with 24 personnel currently deployed to the Dixie and Monument Fires. As of this morning, the Dixie Fire is reported to be 43% contained, while the Monument Fire is at a mere 20% containment. The department has organized a "rainbow strike team," consisting of three engines from their agency and two from other agencies, to enhance firefighting efforts.
In addition to the strike team, a task force has been formed, comprising various types of engines to tackle the ongoing challenges posed by the fires. The department is also assisting with the McFarland fire, which is currently 71% contained, through their Incident Management Team (IMT).
Despite the demanding conditions, all personnel are reported to be in good health, with multiple rotations already completed at the Dixie Fire. The summer has proven to be particularly challenging, with new fires emerging, including two recent incidents in the Grass Valley area.
On the training front, the department is preparing for its upcoming academy, set to begin on August 2, with 41 recruits currently in training. This cohort is expected to undergo their first test this Friday, and the integration of new recruits with existing personnel has been positively received.
As the fire season intensifies, the San Francisco fire department remains committed to supporting state operations and ensuring the safety of its personnel and the communities affected by these wildfires.
