Mayor leads Mission Bay groundbreaking for new Bayfront Park

Groundbreaking for Bayfront Park in Mission Bay is set for tomorrow, marking a significant milestone for San Francisco's waterfront development. The park, which was approved in 2017, spans just under 5.5 acres on Terry Francois Boulevard, adjacent to the Chase Warriors Stadium. This new green space is poised to enhance the area, serving as a vital link in the Bay Trail and being located near a future ferry terminal.

City officials are optimistic about completing the park by next year, emphasizing its importance in connecting various community elements. "It sits really at the intersection of so many different things there," noted a city representative during the meeting.

In addition to the groundbreaking, the Transbay area is buzzing with activity. A design for Block 3 Park will be presented at the commission's meeting on August 16. The Eastcut Community Benefits District is actively engaging the community to name the park, moving away from the generic "Transbay Block 3 Park." A public meeting is scheduled for August 9 at 6 PM, where residents can contribute ideas.

Meanwhile, the old temporary terminal site at Folsom and Howard is launching an outdoor cinema series this weekend, featuring a 23-foot LED screen for movie nights. This initiative aims to bring the community together through film.

Lastly, the Hunters Point Shipyard is gearing up for its open studios event in October, showcasing 300 artist studios and attracting around 6,000 visitors over three days. This event is a highlight for both artists and the Bayview community, reinforcing the area's cultural vibrancy.
