Historic Preservation Commission reviews seven legacy business applications in San Francisco

The San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission convened on July 4, 2025, to discuss the inclusion of several legacy businesses into the city's registry. The meeting began with the introduction of new planning staff members, including Maggie Dong, Manushi Mather, and Lizzie Mao, who presented the applications for the legacy businesses.

The first application was for The Dubliner, a 36-year-old sports bar located at 20 Fourth Street. Known for its classic wood decor and community atmosphere, staff recommended its addition to the legacy business registry due to its significance as a local gathering space.

Next, Under Glass Custom Framing, a 36-year-old custom framing shop in the Castro neighborhood, was presented. The business not only provides framing services but also supports local artists and non-profits. Lizzie Mao then introduced Delano Nursery Inc., a family-owned business with a 101-year history. The nursery is recognized for its eco-friendly practices and commitment to sourcing responsibly. Staff recommended its inclusion in the registry to honor its long-standing contributions to the community.

Dakota Speecher presented Friscati Restaurant, a 37-year-old establishment in Russian Hill known for its Italian cuisine and community involvement. The restaurant has a rich history and actively supports local non-profits, leading staff to recommend its addition to the legacy registry.

Adventure Cat Sailing Charters, a 32-year-old business offering sailing tours of San Francisco Bay, was also discussed. The company has a strong community focus, providing educational trips and donations to local organizations. Staff supported its application for the legacy business registry.

Manushi Mather presented Eli and Eva Company, a music store in Chinatown established in 1970. The store plays a vital role in preserving Chinese musical traditions and serves the local community. Staff recommended its inclusion in the registry.

Lastly, Enclosures International Corporation, founded in 1977, was discussed. The company specializes in handling valuable items and has a notable client list. Staff supported its application, recognizing its historical significance and contributions to the arts community.

The commission concluded the meeting with a strong endorsement for all presented legacy business applications, emphasizing the importance of preserving San Francisco's unique cultural and historical landscape.
