Mission Bay Commission approves third sign for Thrive City near Chase Center

The San Francisco City Commission has approved a significant amendment to the Mission Bay South signage master plan, allowing for a new district sign at Thrive City, the plaza outside the Chase Center. This decision, made during a recent meeting, aims to enhance visibility and placemaking in the area, which regularly hosts community events.

Director Koslovsky introduced the amendment, emphasizing its importance for the Warriors' Event Center sign program. Gretchen Heckman, a senior development specialist, detailed the changes, noting that this is the fourth amendment to the signage plan since its inception. The new sign will face inward towards Thrive City, helping to guide pedestrians and enhance the overall experience of the public space.

Thrive City has become a vibrant community hub since the Chase Center opened in 2019, hosting over 250 events, including cultural celebrations and health fairs. Yo Yo Murphy, Senior Vice President of Government and Community Relations for the Warriors, highlighted the commitment to making Thrive City a welcoming space for all, with plans for new retail openings in 2024.

Commissioners expressed strong support for the amendment, recognizing the positive impact of Thrive City on the community. They discussed the need for improved signage to help visitors navigate the area and locate small businesses. The Warriors are currently working on a more comprehensive signage plan to address these concerns.

The motion to approve the amendment passed unanimously, marking a step forward in enhancing the Mission Bay area as a dynamic and accessible community space. The commission looks forward to future developments that will further enrich the neighborhood.
