San Francisco is on track to achieve its ambitious goal of 100% renewable energy by 2025, five years ahead of the city's original timeline. During a recent government meeting, Kiara from the Clean Power SF team provided an update on the progress made towards this significant milestone.
As of 2020, Clean Power SF has successfully delivered over 95% greenhouse gas-free energy to its customers. To further this achievement, the program has contracted for 467 megawatts of new wind and solar projects, including three new solar and battery storage contracts located within California. These projects are crucial in laying the groundwork for a fully renewable energy supply.
The long-term resource plan developed by Clean Power SF outlines a clear path to reach the 100% renewable energy target. This plan includes investments in both new and existing renewable resources, with a commitment to add 240 megawatts of new renewable energy and 265 megawatts of storage over the next five years.
This proactive approach not only positions San Francisco as a leader in renewable energy but also underscores the city's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. As the Clean Power SF team continues to implement these initiatives, residents can look forward to a greener future powered by clean energy.
