California Department of Aging approves $1M grant for senior nutrition programs

The San Francisco City Commission convened to discuss a significant funding initiative aimed at enhancing senior nutrition services. The grant, totaling $1,052,073, is designed to support infrastructure improvements for both congregate and home-delivered nutrition programs. "It is crucial for our nutrition partners... to meet the needs of the communities they serve under normal circumstances and in emergencies," she stated.

This funding stems from a broader $30 million initiative advocated by Meals on Wheels of California, which sought to bolster community nutrition programs statewide. If approved, the grant will allow DAS to allocate funds to various nutrition partners, enabling them to upgrade facilities and enhance meal production and distribution capabilities.

The commission's approval of this contract is a vital step in ensuring that essential nutrition services continue to be available to San Francisco's vulnerable populations.
