San Francisco increases language services at community ADRCs for Chinese and Spanish speakers

San Francisco's Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) has taken a significant step to enhance language accessibility for its community members. During a recent government meeting, the commission approved a funding modification aimed at increasing Chinese and Spanish language capacity across various Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) in the city.

With 13 ADRCs serving 11 districts, the initiative is designed to better meet the growing demand for linguistically appropriate services. The funding will allow organizations such as the Mission Neighborhood Center and Unlock to hire additional staff, specifically targeting language needs in Districts 8 and 9. This move is expected to significantly reduce wait times and improve access to essential services for non-English speaking residents.

The decision was based on thorough data collection and analysis of consumer requests, ensuring that the modifications align with community needs. The commission confirmed that all existing programs were compliant with contract terms, indicating a well-managed approach to service delivery.

In addition to the language capacity enhancements, the meeting also addressed a contract modification with Jump Technologies for the Automated Data Management and Reporting System, known as LEAPS. This modification will extend the contract period and increase funding to support Adult Protective Services and quality improvement efforts.

The approval of these initiatives reflects the city's commitment to inclusivity and responsiveness to the diverse needs of its residents.
