Commission receives report on Vanity Nightclub incident involving rifle and assault

In a recent meeting of the San Francisco Commission, significant concerns were raised regarding safety protocols at Vanity Nightclub following a serious incident that occurred on July 30. The senior inspector reported that since the last commission hearing on August 1, the office received 37 complaints, with one particular update drawing attention to a troubling event outside the nightclub.

On the night in question, security personnel at Vanity denied entry to an individual carrying a rifle concealed in his pants. Despite this alarming situation, security failed to notify the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) immediately. Later that evening, the same individual and his group were involved in a robbery and assaulted bystanders outside the venue. The SFPD reported that no incident report was filed by the nightclub management, which is a violation of protocol.

The inspector highlighted several violations observed by the SFPD, including security staff not wearing their designated uniforms and the failure to call 911 when the rifle was discovered. In response to these violations, Deputy Director Ezevedo issued a citation on August 4. Following the incident, a meeting was held with the nightclub's management and SFPD officials, where it was decided that Vanity would no longer collaborate with the promoter responsible for the Sunday night events.
