San Francisco Board of Education celebrates Class of 2022 graduation and welcomes new delegates

The San Francisco Board of Education held its first meeting since graduation, celebrating the achievements of the Class of 2022 and welcoming new student delegates for the upcoming school year. Board members expressed pride in the graduates and acknowledged the importance of community engagement in education, highlighted by a recent collaboration with the Mission Promise Neighborhood Collaborative.

During the meeting, the board emphasized its commitment to inclusivity and support for all students, particularly through ongoing health and safety measures. Superintendent Matthews provided updates on COVID-19 testing, which will continue through July 31, and announced that San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) students, staff, and families will participate in the upcoming Pride Parade, reinforcing the district's dedication to creating a welcoming environment for LGBTQ students.

The board also outlined summer learning programs aimed at serving 17,000 students across 92 sites, focusing on literacy and community building. Notable initiatives include a collaboration with the Springboard Collaborative to enhance literacy skills and the return of the Black Star Rising program at Balboa High School. Additionally, free meals will be provided to all youth this summer, ensuring access to nutrition for students regardless of enrollment status.

As the meeting progressed, the board acknowledged the ancestral land of the Ramaytush Ohlone people, affirming their rights and contributions as the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula.
