Plaza East enhances community engagement with wellness events and resource referrals

In a recent meeting, the City of San Francisco highlighted significant community engagement efforts at Plaza East, showcasing a commitment to resident support and well-being. This month, the Plaza hosted a series of events aimed at fostering connection and addressing the needs of its residents, including a coffee hour attended by 16 residents and a resident appreciation dinner that drew 29 participants.

The initiative also provided weekly hot meals to 18 families, reinforcing the community's commitment to food security. Notably, the healing and wellness events, conducted in partnership with the Department of Public Health, offered residents a safe space to discuss personal traumas and connect with counselors. These sessions have seen participation from about 20 residents each month, demonstrating a growing interest in mental health support.

Safety concerns among residents were a prominent topic of discussion. The property management team has responded by hiring a patrol service for evening hours and addressing issues of on-site violence through mediation efforts. These measures aim to enhance the overall quality of life for residents, with ongoing work orders being addressed to improve living conditions.

In addition to these initiatives, the tenant association has been active, hosting after-school programs for children and various senior activities, including bingo and jewelry-making sessions. The collaboration between different city departments and community organizations is seen as crucial for providing comprehensive support to residents.

Looking ahead, the city plans to allocate an additional $1.2 million to enhance services at Plaza East, sourced from the housing authority's RAD residual receipts. This funding aims to further improve resident services and capital improvements, ensuring that the community continues to thrive.
