Commission on the Environment honors Ramaytush Ohlone during climate agenda meeting

The San Francisco Commission on the Environment convened on July 4, 2025, to address key issues related to climate action and public integrity. The meeting began with a call for focus on climate initiatives, as expressed by Sarah Greenwald from District 2, who urged the commission to collaborate with the Board to support the San Francisco Environment (SFE) efforts.

Following public comments, the commission proceeded to a roll call vote on a teleconferencing resolution, which passed unanimously with all present members voting in favor, except for two excused commissioners.

President Ahn opened the meeting with a significant acknowledgment of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. He emphasized the importance of recognizing Indigenous knowledge in environmental stewardship and expressed respect for the community's enduring connection to the land.

President Ahn also shared personal updates, noting his remote participation due to a positive COVID-19 test, while assuring that his symptoms were mild. He highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the commission, including climate change and public health issues, and expressed gratitude for the leadership of Vice President Stevenson in facilitating discussions on ethics.
