Mayor introduces rules for outdoor live performances and small business recovery efforts

Live performances in San Francisco are set to undergo significant changes as city officials outline new guidelines aimed at revitalizing the local arts scene. During a recent government meeting, discussions centered on the implementation of best practices for live performances, emphasizing the importance of safety and compliance with health regulations.

Key among the announcements was the introduction of the Small Business Recovery Act and a permanent shared spaces program, both designed to support local businesses and enhance outdoor dining experiences. The meeting highlighted the need for a structured framework to facilitate live performances, particularly in outdoor settings, as the city continues to navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Officials detailed the rules for outdoor live performances, which now include provisions for outdoor dining combined with entertainment. For instance, restaurants can host live performances as long as patrons are seated, with a maximum of six people per table and strict distancing measures in place. Notably, the requirement for a bona fide meal to serve alcohol has been lifted, allowing for greater flexibility in outdoor dining arrangements.

The meeting also addressed outdoor arts and music festivals, permitting gatherings of up to 50 attendees, provided that social distancing is maintained. Organizers must submit a health and safety plan to the Department of Public Health five days prior to the event, although prior approval is not necessary.

Indoor performances remain limited, primarily occurring in conjunction with indoor dining, which is capped at 50% capacity. Strict rules govern the arrangement of tables and the serving of food and beverages, with a curfew set for 11 PM.
