Keyes Jazz Bistro receives entertainment permit for live music venue in North Beach

A new jazz venue is set to bring live music back to San Francisco's North Beach, as Keyes Jazz Bistro received unanimous approval for its entertainment permit during a recent city meeting. The bistro, which will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, aims to open four to five nights a week, starting at 5 PM, and will host live jazz performances for patrons.

Owner Simon Rowe emphasized the venue's mission to create a community hub for jazz music, recalling the rich history of jazz in the area. "We have up to 40 world-class jazz musicians living in the Bay Area who really don’t have a place to call home for their performances," Rowe stated. He aims to fill this gap while also partnering with local nonprofits like Jazz in the Neighborhood and the Independent Musicians Alliance to support musicians and foster community engagement.

The venue will feature ticketed events with a focus on accessibility, with ticket prices starting at $25. Rowe assured attendees that the atmosphere would prioritize listening etiquette, creating a respectful environment for both performers and audience members.

Public support for the bistro was strong, with several community members expressing excitement about the return of a dedicated jazz space. Mario Goneri, a musician and supporter, highlighted the importance of making jazz accessible to neighborhoods, while another local resident noted the need for sophisticated music venues in the area.

With the permit approved, Rowe and his team are now poised to begin the build-out of Keyes Jazz Bistro, promising to revive the spirit of jazz in San Francisco and provide a platform for local talent.
