Mayor Breed inaugurates renovated Castro Mission Health Center with expanded services

In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare access in San Francisco, city officials, including Mayor London Breed, celebrated the reopening of the newly renovated Castro Mission Health Center. This facility, which has served the community for 57 years, was the city's first neighborhood-based primary care clinic when it opened in 1965.

The Castro Mission Health Center provides a wide range of essential services, including routine checkups, pharmacy consultations, behavioral health services, and specialized care for HIV/AIDS prevention. Notably, the center also offers dedicated services for LGBTQ+ youth, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and community health.

A key development announced during the meeting is the upcoming relocation of the city's Gender Health SF program to the health center later this fall. This move aims to enhance access to quality gender-affirming care for underserved transgender and non-binary individuals, addressing a critical need in the community.

The renovations, completed in July 2022, included significant upgrades such as 12 state-of-the-art exam rooms, four new consultation rooms, and improvements to the facility's infrastructure, including seismic and fire protection upgrades. The center also features low-maintenance landscaping, contributing to a welcoming environment for patients.

This renovation is part of a broader initiative to improve healthcare infrastructure in San Francisco, ensuring that residents have access to high-quality medical services.
