San Francisco health officials urge vaccinations ahead of holiday season amid rising COVID cases

San Francisco officials are urging residents to take proactive measures against COVID-19 and influenza as the holiday season approaches. During a recent government meeting, health department representatives highlighted the importance of vaccinations, good hygiene practices, and access to testing kits to combat rising infection rates.

The city is experiencing an uptick in flu cases not seen last year, alongside a slight increase in COVID-19 cases, now at 10.6 per 100,000 residents. Hospitalizations remain steady, but officials anticipate a rise as colder weather sets in. Currently, 86% of the San Francisco population has received their initial COVID vaccine series, with 23% having received the bivalent booster—significantly higher than the national average.

In addition to COVID-19 updates, the meeting addressed the transition of several programs from PRC and Baker Place to new providers, ensuring continuity of care for clients. The health department is working diligently to maintain service stability during this transition.

The meeting also celebrated a significant reduction in local Mpox cases, with only one case reported every ten days, thanks to extensive vaccination efforts that have reached over 28,000 residents.

As the city prepares for the end of the COVID-19 state of emergency, officials are collaborating with state authorities to ensure a smooth transition while continuing to monitor public health metrics closely.
