Mission Bay South approves $75M loan for affordable housing project at China Basin

The San Francisco City Council has taken a significant step towards addressing the city's affordable housing crisis by approving a $75 million agreement for the construction of a new residential project. During a recent meeting, the council authorized a disposition and development agreement with 350 China Basin Partners LLC for a 148-unit affordable housing project located at 400 China Basin Street in Mission Bay South.

This project is particularly noteworthy as it represents one of the last remaining opportunities for affordable housing development in the Mission Bay area. With only three sites left for such initiatives, this project is crucial in fulfilling the city's commitment to providing affordable homeownership options. The development will consist entirely of affordable units, marking it as a vital addition to the community.

The Mission Bay project area, which has been under redevelopment since 1998, aims to create a balanced mix of residential and commercial spaces. Approximately 30% of the total residential units planned for the area are designated as affordable housing. To date, 612 affordable units have been completed, with an additional 606 units either planned or under construction.

The council's approval is backed by environmental assessments that confirm the project aligns with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements. This ensures that the development will proceed with due consideration for environmental impacts.
