San Francisco Housing Authority approves infrastructure plans for Sunnydale HOPE SF project

The San Francisco Housing Authority has taken a significant step forward in urban development by approving key documents for the Sunnydale HOPE SF project. This initiative aims to enhance infrastructure and housing in the Sunnydale neighborhood, with a focus on creating affordable living spaces.

During a recent government meeting, the board authorized the chief executive officer to enter into agreements with Sunnydale Infrastructure LLC and other partners for the construction of infrastructure improvements related to phases 1B and 1C of the project. This includes a variety of essential documents such as an infrastructure ground lease, a HUD Use Agreement, and a final subdivision map.

Diane Jackson McLean, representing the Housing Authority, outlined the importance of these approvals, emphasizing that they are crucial for the redevelopment of the area. The infrastructure improvements will encompass street and utility upgrades, parks, and open spaces, ultimately leading to the construction of 200% affordable housing developments known as Block 7 and Block 9, alongside market-rate sites.

Claire Murphy from Mercy Housing provided an update on the project, highlighting the completion of previous phases and the ongoing work that will pave the way for future developments. The current phase includes significant street realignment and utility improvements, with a new linear bike path planned along Sunnydale Avenue.

The anticipated outcomes of this project are substantial, with plans for 170 new housing units and community-serving spaces, including a wellness center and early childhood education facilities. The project aims to foster community engagement and provide essential services to residents.

As the Sunnydale HOPE SF project progresses, it promises to transform the neighborhood into a vibrant community with a mix of affordable and market-rate housing, alongside vital infrastructure improvements. The next steps will involve continued collaboration with HUD and the city to ensure the successful execution of these plans.
