San Francisco Environmental Department welcomes new employees focused on zero waste initiatives

The San Francisco Environmental Department held a meeting on July 4, 2025, to welcome new employees and discuss ongoing initiatives. The session began with a bittersweet acknowledgment of the departure of a long-standing team member, followed by an introduction of several new hires who will contribute to the department's environmental efforts.

The new employees introduced themselves, sharing their roles and areas of focus. Aislinn Jepez, the new Environmental Justice Associate, highlighted her work on integrated pest management and zero waste initiatives at affordable housing sites. Shiwing Lau and Jessica Reyes, both Environmental Education Associates, expressed their enthusiasm for promoting zero waste education in schools across San Francisco. Katie Lowry, a McCarthy Fellow, noted her role in documenting meeting minutes.

Two additional new hires participated remotely: Kalia Cruz, the Commercial Zero Waste Assistant Coordinator, who will focus on compliance with the refuse separation ordinance, and Chris Satoshi, a Construction and Demolition Zero Waste Fellow, who will assist with the implementation of environmental code policies.

Following the introductions, the meeting transitioned to public comment. No in-person comments were made, and the remote public comment segment also concluded without participation. The meeting wrapped up with a warm welcome to the new employees, emphasizing the department's commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.
