Entertainment Commission starts hybrid hearings with new COVID-19 attendance policies

The San Francisco Entertainment Commission held its first hybrid meeting on July 4, 2025, marking a significant return to in-person gatherings after two years of virtual hearings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting aimed to ensure that all participants could engage both virtually and in person, reflecting the city's ongoing efforts to adapt to changing health guidelines.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that while commissioners are required to attend in person, they may participate remotely if they have COVID-related reasons, such as illness or caring for a sick household member. Those attending remotely must submit a letter confirming their situation and appear on camera during the meeting.

The commission also discussed updates to local health orders affecting entertainment and nightlife businesses. As of March 11, the city no longer mandates proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 tests for entry into certain indoor venues, including restaurants and gyms. However, businesses retain the right to impose stricter requirements if they choose. Notably, indoor mega events with over 1,000 attendees will still require proof of vaccination or a negative test for entry.

The meeting concluded with a reminder for all attendees to comply with health and safety protocols, including the continued recommendation for masks in public commission hearing rooms. The commission expressed its commitment to keeping the community informed and engaged as it navigates the evolving landscape of public health and safety.
