Compass Family Services highlights urgent need for safe parking and shelter solutions

The recent government meeting in San Francisco highlighted pressing issues surrounding family homelessness and the need for immediate solutions. Alicia Jall, a new policy staff member at Compass Family Services, reported that there are currently 238 families waiting for single room shelter placements. She emphasized the strain on direct service staff, who are feeling overwhelmed by the demand for assistance.

Jall called for the establishment of a safe parking site or a long-term solution to address the homelessness crisis before citations for illegal parking go into effect. She also invited attendees to a community event hosted by Compass at their 30 Seventh Grove location, aimed at fostering dialogue about family homelessness in the city.

Ann Quintins, the executive director of Conard House, expressed gratitude for the shared values among attendees and underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to find solutions. The meeting served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss the urgent need for effective strategies to support families facing homelessness in San Francisco.
