Commission approves $803K grant for expanded elderly home care services

In a significant move to enhance elder care services, the San Francisco City Commission has approved an additional $177,317 to modify an existing grant agreement with Self Help for the Elderly. This funding will support short-term home care services for older adults, extending the program through June 2025 with a total grant amount not to exceed $803,718.

Program Director Mike Zogg presented the proposal, highlighting the need for increased capacity due to a shortage of home care workers. The additional funding will allow for the hiring of a new care worker and provide necessary administrative support for scheduling and intake processes. Zogg noted that this adjustment is crucial for maintaining service levels, especially as the program anticipates serving an estimated 100 more clients, bringing the total to around 500 individuals benefiting from these services.

The commission unanimously approved the funding, reflecting a strong commitment to supporting the aging population in San Francisco.
