Fire Department honors new reservists and supports cancer awareness initiatives

In a recent meeting held at San Francisco City Hall, city officials gathered to discuss critical updates regarding emergency preparedness and community engagement. The atmosphere was charged with a sense of urgency as the work supervisor announced a forthcoming hearing on November 18 to review the EFWS Seawater Supply Report and the Fire Following Earthquake Report. These reports are pivotal in enhancing the city’s resilience against natural disasters, particularly in light of past events.

Chief O'Connor shared insights from a recent drill conducted with Supervisor Walton and the Public Utilities Commission (PUC). The Chief illustrated how past experiences, such as the Marina District's survival during the Long Peter earthquake, have shaped current strategies. He recounted how firefighters utilized yachts to bridge gaps and pump water into the system, showcasing the innovative approaches taken to safeguard the community.

In addition to emergency preparedness, the meeting celebrated the graduation of 21 new fire reservists, who will bolster the department's capacity to respond to emergencies. She presented a significant donation to the San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation, marking her 25th anniversary of fundraising efforts. The event was graced by the Consul General of Canada, who commended her contributions, further emphasizing the city’s commitment to health and wellness initiatives.
