Long Term Care Coordinating Council hosts event on senior homelessness in San Francisco

The City of San Francisco held a government meeting on July 4, 2025, focusing on pressing issues affecting seniors and individuals with disabilities. The meeting began with public comments highlighting the dire living conditions faced by many seniors, some of whom have resorted to living in recreational vehicles. This concern was raised by a caller who urged the commission to allow more public commentary after each agenda item to address these critical issues.

Following this, Kathy Deluca from the Community Living Campaign addressed the commission, emphasizing the importance of an upcoming event organized by the Long Term Care Coordinating Council. Scheduled for October 26, the event will focus on the state’s Master Plan for Aging, a comprehensive 10-year initiative aimed at improving the lives of older adults and individuals with disabilities in California. Deluca noted that one of the primary goals of this plan is to ensure housing for all, particularly addressing homelessness among seniors and disabled individuals in San Francisco.

The event will feature a panel of experts, including Director Dierman and Director Shereen McSpadden from the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing, as well as representatives from Episcopal Community Services and the UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative. They will discuss the challenges and solutions related to housing insecurity and homelessness among vulnerable populations.

Deluca encouraged participation in the event, highlighting it as an opportunity for the commission to engage in ongoing discussions about these critical issues. She provided details for RSVPs and further information, inviting community members to join the conversation.
