San Francisco opens new Southeast Family Health Center for Bayview Hunters Point community

In a recent meeting, the San Francisco City Commission celebrated a significant milestone in community health with the opening of the new Southeast Family Health Center. This state-of-the-art facility, spanning 22,000 square feet, aims to provide comprehensive family-oriented primary care and behavioral health services tailored to the diverse needs of the Bayview Hunters Point community.

Commissioners expressed their enthusiasm for the new clinic, which expands upon the original Southeast Health Center established in 1979. The older building, which has served over 4,000 patients annually, will continue to operate alongside the new center, ensuring ongoing support for the community's health care needs, including dental services.

Dr. Grant Colfax, Director of Health, highlighted the importance of this project, noting that it reflects a community-driven vision for health care. The new center is designed to integrate physical and mental health services, promoting a holistic approach to well-being. Dr. Colfax emphasized the positive impact of the clinic's environment on patient care, encouraging commissioners to visit the facility to witness its benefits firsthand.

The project, funded by a $339.5 million Public Health and Safety Bond approved by voters in 2016, represents a long-term commitment to enhancing health services in the area. The commission acknowledged the hard work of Public Works and the Department of Public Health staff, particularly during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to the health center discussion, the meeting included procedural items such as the approval of previous meeting minutes and plans to honor Tracy Packer at a future gathering. The commission continues to prioritize community engagement, allowing public comments on agenda items while maintaining a structured discussion format.
