San Francisco plans $25.6M purchase for 114-unit permanent supportive housing at 835 Park Street

San Francisco County is set to enhance its permanent supportive housing options with the proposed acquisition of a residential building located at 835 Park Street. During a recent budget and finance committee meeting, Emily Cohen from the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing presented the plan, which aims to add 114 units specifically designed for individuals exiting homelessness.

The building, currently functioning as a residential facility, features generously sized rooms, private bathrooms, and communal spaces, making it an ideal candidate for supportive housing. The city plans to purchase the property for approximately $25.6 million, with an additional estimated $51,000 in closing costs. Funding for the acquisition and operations will be sourced from the city budget, and there are plans to apply for supplemental funds through the state's Homekey program.

Support for the acquisition was voiced by Jennifer Bolin, a legislative aide to Supervisor Preston, who emphasized the importance of providing stable housing with supportive services to vulnerable residents. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards addressing homelessness in District 5, with hopes that it will mark a new era of expanding supportive housing in the area.
