Concerns over delays in the connection of Fire Station 35 took center stage at the recent San Francisco government meeting, with officials acknowledging the project is currently five months behind schedule. Originally projected for completion in February 2021, the timeline has shifted, with a new target set for October 2021.
Assistant Deputy Chief Don DeWitt provided an update on the progress, stating that while the work is complex due to the number of utility vaults required, the team is optimistic about meeting the revised deadline. "We're hoping it will be sooner than October," DeWitt said, emphasizing that the digging and installation of vaults are proceeding smoothly.
The project has faced challenges, including unexpected buried utilities that complicate the connection process. DeWitt noted that the situation resembles a "fish story," with timelines fluctuating as new information arises. However, he reassured attendees that some vaults are arriving ahead of schedule, which could expedite the final connections.
As the city continues to navigate these logistical hurdles, officials remain hopeful that Fire Station 35 will be operational sooner than anticipated, ensuring vital services are restored to the community.
