San Francisco allocates $554,000 for free parking and Muni during Lunar New Year

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce, along with community organizations, requested this support to enhance accessibility for visitors during the Lunar New Year festivities. The proposal includes two days of free Muni service, which was also part of the efforts to encourage attendance at the Chinese New Year parade.

During the meeting, it was noted that the initial appropriation amount had been amended from $700,000 to $554,000 to accurately reflect the costs associated with the initiative. The Budget Legislative Analyst (BLA) confirmed that the ordinance would require replenishment of the General Reserve in the following budget year.

Public comments were invited, but no speakers participated in the discussion. The ordinance received unanimous support from the board members present, with a motion to forward it to the full board for approval.
