Transbay project manager requests $4.9M increase for Under Ramp Park design contract

In the heart of San Francisco, the Transbay project continues to evolve, with city officials recently approving a significant funding increase for the Under Ramp Park project. During a government meeting, project manager Ben Brandon presented a request to amend the existing contract with CMG Landscape Architecture, seeking an additional $4.9 million. The Under Ramp Park, strategically located beneath the Fremont Street off-ramp and adjacent to the Salesforce Transit Center, is envisioned as a vibrant community space. It will feature a variety of amenities, including a large dog park, informal play areas, walking and biking paths, sports courts, and dining options at the Folsom Pavilion. The park's design has undergone several revisions since its inception in 2011, with the latest schematic approved just last month.

Brandon highlighted the park's significance, noting that it will not only enhance the urban landscape but also provide essential recreational opportunities in a bustling area. The project has faced delays over the years, primarily due to negotiations with Caltrans regarding land use and safety concerns. However, with the recent approval, the design team is poised to enter the next phase of development.

The funding increase will also address necessary safety and engineering studies mandated by Caltrans and the Transbay Joint Powers Authority. While the project has seen a decrease in small business enterprise participation from 27% to a projected 24%, officials remain optimistic about the overall impact of the park on the community.
