SFMTA extends Cable Car Museum agreement for five more years

A significant resolution was passed during the recent San Francisco County government meeting, retroactively approving a five-year extension of the management and operation agreement between the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and the Friends of the Cable Car Museum. This extension, which covers the period from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2024, ensures the continued operation of the iconic cable car museum, a vital cultural and educational resource in the city.

William Zao from SFMTA presented the resolution, highlighting the museum's role in providing free educational experiences and tours to the public. The museum, located at 1201 Mason Street, houses a variety of cable car artifacts, including historical cable cars, and features a gift shop and an observation deck that offers views of the cable car operations.

The original agreement, established in 2009, was designed for a ten-year term with options for two additional five-year extensions. This recent approval not only secures the museum's future but also reinforces its importance as a historical landmark and educational facility in San Francisco.
