Ocean Avenue Association leadership highlights progress and challenges at community meeting

The recent San Francisco County government meeting highlighted significant progress and ongoing challenges within the Ocean Avenue Association (OAA), a community benefit district focused on revitalizing the area. Supervisor Melgar expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts between the OAA and the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), emphasizing the positive changes observed in the corridor over the past three and a half years.

During the meeting, Melgar acknowledged the hard work of Chris Corgas and the OEWD team, noting that their focused approach to identifying areas for improvement has led to tangible results. The supervisor pointed out that while challenges remain, the leadership transition and support from OEWD have been instrumental in fostering a collaborative environment that benefits local businesses.

Supervisor Dorsey also shared his appreciation for the effective processes in place to address issues within community benefit districts (CBDs). He praised the appointment of Christian Martin as the new executive director of the OAA, highlighting his reputation and potential for success in this role.

Martin, who joined the OAA at the end of 2022, discussed the challenges he faced in re-engaging stakeholders and rebuilding trust within the community. He outlined the importance of addressing the 19 recommendations provided by the OEWD to ensure the organization remains on track and continues to thrive.

The meeting underscored the commitment of local leaders to support the OAA and its mission, with discussions of potential expansions and renewed funding on the horizon. As the community looks to the future, the collaborative efforts between the OAA, OEWD, and local supervisors aim to enhance the vitality of Ocean Avenue and support its businesses.
