Supervisors approve 10-year lease extension for Camelot Hotel's supportive housing program

In a recent San Francisco County government meeting, significant steps were taken to enhance housing stability for vulnerable populations. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution to extend the lease for the Camelot Hotel, located at 124 Turk Street, which provides 55 units of permanent supportive housing. This extension will last for ten years, ensuring continued support for formerly homeless tenants at a base rent of approximately $563,000 per year, with annual increases tied to inflation.

The resolution, presented by the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing, emphasizes the importance of maintaining stable housing for those in need. Dylan Schneider, the legislative affairs manager at the department, highlighted the success of the Camelot Hotel, noting that 93% of residents expressed satisfaction with their living conditions. The property has been managed by Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing (DISH), which has maintained a high level of tenant stability and satisfaction.

During the meeting, public comments reinforced the positive impact of the Camelot Hotel on its residents. Lauren Hall, the executive director of DISH, shared insights into the property’s management and the long-term commitment of staff, which contributes to the overall success of the supportive housing model. The board members expressed their appreciation for the work being done at the Camelot and voiced their support for the lease extension, with several members requesting to be added as co-sponsors of the resolution.

In addition to the lease extension for the Camelot Hotel, the board also discussed a separate resolution to extend a lease for the sheriff's department at 1740 Folsom Street. This lease extension, which will be reviewed in a future meeting, reflects the ongoing efforts to manage city properties effectively while ensuring that essential services remain operational.
