Community Advisory Committee praises QT PAC and requests full funding for LGBTQIA support

The recent San Francisco City meeting highlighted significant discussions surrounding support for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and the need for funding the newly established QT Parent Advisory Council (QT PAC). Members of the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education expressed gratitude for the advocacy efforts of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and emphasized the importance of maintaining legal obligations to support families of students with IEPs during uncertain times.

Several speakers voiced their support for the QT PAC, which aims to represent and advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ families within the school district. Marissa, a representative from Buena Vista Juarez Van, urged the board to fully fund the QT PAC, stressing that dedicated staff would enhance the council's effectiveness in supporting these families. She noted that other advisory councils have benefited from similar funding, which has led to improved advocacy and community connections.

Josephine praised the PAC for its inclusive approach, highlighting the diverse voices within the group. However, she acknowledged the financial challenges facing the school district, which is currently under a state takeover risk. Despite these challenges, she called for recognition of the QT PAC's efforts, even if funding must be delayed.

Other participants, including Haba, echoed the need for financial solutions to support various advisory groups, emphasizing the importance of addressing the needs of students with IEPs and those who are immune compromised. Haba also raised concerns about learning loss among students, urging the district to prioritize this issue in future agendas.

The meeting underscored the critical need for continued advocacy and support for marginalized student populations, as well as the importance of securing funding to ensure effective representation and resources for families within the San Francisco Unified School District.
