San Francisco business owners urge permanent continuation of shared space program

Antonio Sansoni, a bar owner, emphasized the importance of the program, urging the city to extend it for another year while legislative details are finalized. Kelly Kozak, a co-owner of Bridal Cutlery, noted that while her retail business hasn't directly benefited from the program, many local restaurants have relied on it to stay afloat.

Georg Gottschalk, a resident and supporter of the program, compared the current situation to the opportunities that arose after the 1989 earthquake, advocating for the permanent establishment of shared spaces to enhance the city's vibrancy.

While the majority of speakers supported the program, some raised concerns about ensuring equitable access and addressing potential accessibility issues for all community members. Steven Altamirano cautioned against making the program permanent without addressing these equity concerns, suggesting that a long-term extension would provide businesses with the stability they need.
