Supervisor Stephanie sponsors sidewalk sale fee waiver for San Francisco's holiday season

An ordinance aimed at boosting local businesses during the holiday season has been proposed in San Francisco, waiving fees for temporary street space occupancy permits. Sponsored by Supervisor Catherine Stephanie, the ordinance seeks to eliminate the usual costs associated with sidewalk sales over three weekends in November and December. This initiative is designed to encourage residents to shop locally and support small businesses during the festive period.

Dominica Donovan, a legislative aide to Supervisor Stephanie, highlighted that this is the second consecutive year the board has taken such action, following successful fee waivers in previous years to promote Small Business Week. The selected weekends for the sales mirror those from last year, ensuring continuity in support for local merchants.

Supervisor Chan expressed gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing its importance for commercial corridors like Clement Street, which have shown resilience throughout the pandemic.
