Supervisor Dorsey discusses public safety concerns at San Francisco's supportive housing facility

The San Francisco County government meeting on July 4, 2025, focused on pressing public safety concerns related to a permanent supportive housing facility that has generated significant calls for city services. Between late October 2022 and March 2025, the facility accounted for 1,166 calls, including 656 police-related incidents. Notably, 159 of these were classified as Priority A calls, indicating imminent danger to life or serious property damage.

The discussions highlighted the facility's location adjacent to the Public Safety Building, raising concerns about its effectiveness in ensuring community safety. Residents from the Mission Bay area expressed their frustrations, noting that despite their initial support for the project, they now have serious doubts about the city's ability to manage the facility effectively. Many residents reported feeling unsafe due to the high number of incidents, which included fights, assaults, and gun violence.

Emily Cohen, Deputy Director for Communications and Legislative Affairs with the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing, was invited to present at the meeting. She acknowledged the community's concerns and emphasized the importance of collaboration to find solutions that benefit both the tenants of the facility and the surrounding neighborhood.
