Public Safety Committee approves liquor license transfers for two San Francisco businesses

The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee of San Francisco convened on July 4, 2025, to discuss two significant liquor license applications. The meeting, chaired by Supervisor Gordon Marr, included committee members Matt Haney and Aaron Peskin, who participated remotely.

The first item on the agenda was a hearing regarding the transfer of a Type 51 nonprofit club liquor license to the Treasure Island Yacht Club. Officer Salmonson from the San Francisco Police Department reported that there were no letters of protest or support for the application. The club is located in a high-crime area but is considered a low saturation zone. The Alcohol Liaison Unit recommended approval without additional conditions. The committee unanimously voted to send a positive recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors.

The second item involved a Type 21 off-sale general liquor license application for Bottle Bacchanal LLC, a new boutique bottle shop in the Castro district. Owner Bess Hughes presented her vision for the shop, emphasizing a focus on community engagement and support for women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ producers. Officer Salmonson noted that while the area is classified as high crime and high saturation, there were no objections from the Mission Station. The committee also voted to recommend this application positively to the full board, with a condition for the business to monitor loitering in the vicinity.

Both applications will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for further consideration, reflecting the committee's commitment to supporting local businesses while addressing community safety concerns.
