San Francisco renames supportive housing at 1321 Mission Street after Margo Antonetti

In a heartfelt session at San Francisco City Hall, the Board of Supervisors gathered to honor the legacy of Margo Antonetti, a dedicated public health advocate, by proposing the renaming of a permanent supportive housing development at 1321 Mission Street to "The Margo." This initiative, spearheaded by Supervisor Mandelmann, aims to commemorate Antonetti's significant contributions to the city's homeless services and public health policies.

Margo Antonetti, who passed away in May 2020, devoted over three decades to improving the lives of vulnerable populations in San Francisco. Her work was instrumental in creating hundreds of supportive housing units and shaping policies around critical issues such as HIV safety nets and mental health services. Colleagues and friends remembered her not only for her professional achievements but also for her personal touch—often seen helping individuals on the streets, embodying her belief that everyone deserves a home.

During the meeting, Lauren Hall, Executive Director of DISH, and Sherilyn Adams, Executive Director of Larkin Street Youth Services, shared poignant memories of Antonetti. Hall described her as a beacon of positivity and a fierce advocate for those in need, while Adams emphasized her commitment to ensuring that no one lives outside. The proposed renaming serves as a tribute to Antonetti's enduring impact and a reminder of the collective responsibility to address homelessness in the city.

The building, now known as "The Margo," features 120 studio units and 39 family units, equipped with modern amenities aimed at providing a dignified living environment for its residents. The initiative not only honors Antonetti's legacy but also highlights the ongoing efforts to support those experiencing homelessness in San Francisco.

As the meeting progressed, the Board opened the floor for public comments, inviting community members to share their thoughts on this meaningful tribute.
