San Francisco Board addresses $12M election costs and $73M bond proposal

San Francisco County's Board of Supervisors made significant strides in addressing local employment and election funding during their recent meeting. The highlight was the approval of a resolution to fix prevailing wages for employees of private businesses that contract with the city, ensuring fair compensation for workers in the service sector. This funding is aimed at covering unforeseen costs related to upcoming elections, including a significant school board recall election. Notably, the city will absorb the costs of this election, which amounts to about $3.25 million, due to financial challenges faced by the school district.

Budget Director Ashley Grafenberger highlighted that the funding will also support new requirements for universal vote-by-mail, ensuring that all residents can participate in the electoral process. The Board's commitment to outreach for immigrant and non-citizen parents was also reaffirmed, with plans to allocate additional funds for this purpose.
