Board of Supervisors confirms Cindy Elias and Kate Black for key commissions

The San Francisco County Board of Supervisors Rules Committee convened on July 4, 2025, to discuss key appointments, including the reappointment of Cindy Elias to the Police Commission and Kate Black to the Historic Preservation Commission.

The meeting began with a motion to confirm the reappointment of Cindy Elias, whose term will end on April 30, 2027. Chair Peskin proposed two motions: one to express intent to confirm Elias's reappointment and another to send the confirmation to the full board for a vote in January 2026. Supervisor Mandelmann expressed his intention to vote against the motions, citing a need for further understanding of Elias's role on the commission. Despite his dissent, the motions passed with a majority vote.

Following this, the committee addressed the reappointment of Kate Black to the Historic Preservation Commission, which is set to end on December 31, 2026. Black, who has served since 2018, highlighted her contributions to historic preservation and her commitment to the city’s equity policies. Supervisors expressed their support for her reappointment, with Mandelmann acknowledging his long-standing relationship with Black and her valuable service.

The committee's decisions will be forwarded to the full Board of Supervisors for further consideration, with the next meeting scheduled for January 10, 2026. These appointments reflect ongoing efforts to maintain experienced leadership within San Francisco's key commissions.
