Brentwood honors 51 AP scholars and one history-making AP capstone diploma recipient

The Brentwood Union Free School District celebrated academic excellence at its Board of Education meeting on November 21, 2024, recognizing 51 students for their achievements in Advanced Placement (AP) courses. This event highlighted the dedication of these students, who have taken on college-level coursework while still in high school.

During the meeting, Wanda, a representative of the district, emphasized the significance of the AP program, noting that students who score a 3 or higher on at least three AP exams earn the title of AP Scholar, which equates to three college credits. The recognition ceremony featured students standing proudly as their names were called, showcasing their hard work and commitment to their education.

The awards were categorized into three levels: AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, and AP Scholar with Distinction. The latter is awarded to students who maintain an average score of 3.5 or higher across all AP exams and score 3 or higher on at least five exams. Notably, the meeting also marked a historic moment for the district, as Mathias Serrano became the first student to receive an AP Capstone Diploma, a prestigious recognition that requires scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research, and four additional AP courses.

Wanda expressed gratitude to the students, their teachers, and families for their support, encouraging the scholars to continue their dedication to their studies. She highlighted the impact these students have on their peers, inspiring younger students to strive for similar achievements.
