Pompton Lakes Council approves road closures for graduation and Pompton Day events

The Pompton Lakes Council convened on May 22, 2024, to address several community matters, including event approvals, infrastructure projects, and public safety initiatives. The meeting began with a motion to temporarily close certain routes for upcoming events, including the Pompton Lakes High School graduation ceremony scheduled for June 20, 2024. The council unanimously approved the closure of Lakeside Avenue from the Pond Hole entrance to Adrian Street from 5:15 PM to 9 PM, with rain dates set for June 21 and 22.

Following this, the council approved another closure of Lakeside Avenue for Pompton Day on September 1, 2024, with a rain date of September 2. This event will run from 7 AM to 11 PM, and the council also voted to waive permit fees for vendors holding a borough food license who wish to participate in Pompton Day.

In addition to event approvals, the council welcomed two new members to the Pompton Lakes Fire Department and expressed gratitude for the successful Walk for Hope event, which saw significant community involvement. Council members highlighted the importance of local partnerships and community support in organizing such events.

Additionally, the borough submitted a $500,000 grant request to Senator Fanaccio's office for funding to replace the Department of Public Works garage. The council discussed ongoing concerns regarding a notice of violation from the Department of Environmental Protection related to properties along the river, seeking clarification on the situation.
