Goodshone High School celebrates student achievements and athletics in March report

The Goochland County Public Schools Board Meeting on March 11, 2024, highlighted numerous achievements and events from Houston High School, showcasing the talents and kindness of its students.

The meeting began with a report on student recognition, where Carter Lehi, an eleventh grader, and senior Allison Croker were acknowledged for their kindness. Both students were nominated by their teachers and are active in sports, with Carter aspiring to be an architect and Allison excelling in softball.

Athletic accomplishments were a significant focus, particularly the swim team's success at regional and state competitions. Notable performances included Bill Bledcher winning the state title in the 500-yard freestyle and Olivia Spooner achieving podium finishes in the girls' events. The boys' team finished tenth overall, while the girls placed seventh.

The meeting also celebrated the achievements of the JHS course students who participated in an all-district event, as well as a trip to Washington, D.C., where they toured the World War II Memorial with historian Alex Kershaw. The robotics team, known as the "Junkyard Dogs," also received commendations for their performance in their first competition.

In addition to sports and academic achievements, the meeting recognized the National Honor Society induction ceremony, which welcomed 70 new members. The unified sports team represented Virginia at the national bowling competition, fostering friendships and teamwork among participants.

Overall, the meeting underscored the commitment of Goochland High School to fostering a supportive and successful environment for its students, celebrating their diverse talents and contributions to the community.
