Arlington ISD honors student leaders and River Legacy Foundation's community support

The Arlington Independent School District (AISD) Board of Trustees convened on June 5, 2025, to discuss various agenda items, beginning with a ceremonial pledge of allegiance led by Fred Threats, the incoming president of the Student Leadership Advisory Board (SLAB). This group, composed of junior class presidents from six high schools and representatives from Arlington Collegiate and Arlington College and Career, focused on advocacy and expansion of student leadership initiatives. They recently completed a four-day leadership training summit, which emphasized the development of leadership skills and community engagement.

Kara Peterson, the outgoing SLAB president, shared her experiences and the impact of SLAB on her personal growth and leadership abilities. She introduced the new SLAB members, who will continue to represent student voices in district discussions. Fred Threats then addressed the board, outlining his vision for the upcoming year, which includes expanding the leadership structure and enhancing community outreach.

The meeting also featured a recognition of the River Legacy Foundation as the community partner of the month. The foundation has collaborated with AISD to provide environmental education and hands-on learning experiences for students. Their initiatives, including the Young Scientist Program and schoolyard habitat projects, have significantly impacted the district's educational offerings.
