Utah Senate passes DUI amendments and hospitality employee grant program bills

The Utah Senate made significant strides during its recent session, passing several key bills aimed at enhancing public safety and supporting local businesses. Among the most notable decisions was the unanimous approval of House Bill 137, which amends DUI laws to allow both blood tests and breathalyzers as acceptable methods for prosecution. This legislation emphasizes a clear message: if you drink, do not drive. The bill received overwhelming support, passing with 21 votes in favor and no opposition, and will soon be signed into law.

In addition to the DUI amendments, the Senate also passed Senate Bill 203, which modifies the tire recycling fund to provide recyclers with increased compensation until the fund reaches a $2 million threshold. This bill, too, saw strong backing, passing with 24 votes in favor and no dissent.

Another important piece of legislation, Senate Bill 125, aims to support hospitality employees by requesting appropriations from ARPA funds. The bill passed with 21 votes in favor, 4 against, and 4 absent.

The Senate also addressed technical adjustments to Senate Bill 213 regarding business name prohibitions, opting to circle the bill for further review before proceeding.
