Senator Milner highlights Weber State University's impact on local workforce and education

Senator Milner took the floor during the recent legislative session to highlight the significant contributions of Weber State University (WSU) and its alumni. Celebrating 20 years of alumni engagement, Milner introduced a group from WSU, including President Joe Barrett and student council president Hannah Olson, who were present in the gallery.

Milner emphasized WSU's role as a leader in health professions education, particularly through the Dr. Ezekiel R. Dunkey College of Health Professions. The college collaborates with three technical colleges to offer a seamless pathway from Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Registered Nurse (RN) and is launching its first Physician Assistant program. This initiative aligns with the growing demand for skilled healthcare providers in Northern Utah.

The senator noted that WSU has expanded its degree offerings while maintaining its community college mission, with 76% of its student body hailing from Northern Utah. He pointed out that the university's programs are tailored to meet regional workforce needs, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to contribute to the local economy.

In a striking statistic, Milner shared findings from a Georgetown University study, which revealed that WSU is the only university in Utah that provides a 10% return on investment for its students ten years after graduation. This achievement underscores WSU's commitment to delivering quality education and fostering workforce readiness.
