Representative Matthews honors Kearns High School student groups for community service impact

The Utah General Legislative Session on January 28, 2022, featured a series of personal recognitions that highlighted the contributions of local youth organizations and community leaders. Representative Matthews opened the session by welcoming members from Kearns High School, including the Latinos in Action program, the Kearns Community Youth Council, and the Cougar Club journalists. He praised their achievements, noting a remarkable 98 percent graduation rate among Latinos in Action participants and their significant community service contributions, including over $7,200 raised for local food pantries and more than 103,000 volunteer hours.

Matthews specifically acknowledged Coach Andrew Boussaint, the advisor for these groups, for his dedication and mentorship, emphasizing the positive impact he has had on the students and the community. His efforts have helped first-generation students pursue higher education and have fostered leadership among youth.

Following Matthews, Representative Fairey recognized Brandon Flint, the superintendent of Golden Spike National Historical Park, Utah's sixth national park. Fairey encouraged fellow legislators to visit the park, highlighting its historical significance and beauty.

Representative Perucci also took a moment to honor the Harriman City Youth Council, accompanied by Councilwoman Sherry Orin, calling them the future leaders of the state.

These personal privileges underscored the importance of community engagement and youth leadership in Utah, showcasing the collaborative efforts of local organizations and their contributions to society.
