Jefferson County Parks Department seeks grants for Interurban Trail construction

In the heart of Jefferson County, a significant step towards enhancing local recreation took center stage during the recent board meeting held on May 14, 2024. The department is seeking funds through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' Knowles Nelson Stewardship Grant Program, as well as the Federal Recreational Trails Program. If approved, the grant could contribute up to $249,999 towards the final phase of the trail's construction, which has an estimated total cost of $1.7 million. Notably, the county has already secured a $1.4 million transportation alternative program grant for this phase, ensuring that the project is well-supported financially.

The resolution received unanimous support from the board, with a simple voice vote confirming the commitment to advancing this recreational initiative. The Parks Committee had previously reviewed and endorsed the resolution, reflecting a strong consensus on the importance of enhancing outdoor spaces for the community.
