Riverside County approves funding for $603M wellness village project

A groundbreaking wellness village project is set to transform Riverside County, with an estimated economic impact of over $603 million. During the Board of Supervisors meeting on March 19, 2024, officials discussed the Riverside University Health System's behavioral health wellness village, highlighting its potential to create jobs and enhance community health.

The proposed wellness village will not only provide essential healthcare services but also promote a healthier environment. Plans include the planting of around 500 trees and the development of 5.5 acres of green space, alongside a 20-foot equestrian trail designed to improve air quality. Advanced air filtration systems will ensure clean indoor environments, while the project encourages alternative transportation options.

"This wellness village will improve community health and wellness, create new jobs, and foster self-sufficiency," said Dr. Chang, emphasizing the project's role in enhancing healthcare access and food options for residents. The initiative aims to save lives and build vital connections within the community.

The Board is set to hold a public hearing to adopt a resolution approving the project's mitigated negative declaration and a mitigation monitoring program. Additionally, they will consider amendments to the predevelopment agreement with PMB LLC and introduce an ordinance related to funding expenditures.
